- Is clear hierarchy is established? Explain how.
Hierarchy is established in this word map as seen in Eddie’s two main categories ‘sports’ and ‘video games’ under these main categories we see additional categories pertaining to three different sports and consoles. Eddie uses font size and color to establish adequate hierarchy throughout his word map.
- Is variation of scale is used effectively?
I think scale is utilized when it comes to this word map because of the different font sizes utilized throughout the world map distinguishing each category. This is a concept that could have been utilized more but overall I think he did a good job.
- Are variations of value, color, spacing, placement, and/or other signals used effectively?
When it comes to color, spacing, and placement I think Eddie did a great job as he distinguishes the two main groups, giving them similar yet different colors. He then breaks up his sport collection into three groups evenly distributing them from each other. He utilizes color when it comes to organizing his collections into categories. Each group is separated by white space and we are able to distinguish the two main groups as their own due to the white spacing separating them as well and the color.
- Does the composition feel balanced overall? Are symmetrical or asymmetrical strategies employed?
Eddie did a good job when creating this symmetrical word map, keeping it balanced and easy to follow working with the white space as well as color.
- Does this work feel like a self-portrait? Why or why not? What does the word map tell you about the person who made it?
I think this does portray a self portrait as these are all the collections that Eddie surrounds himself with and they are a big part of who he is today.
- Finally, does the overall design and organization of their web portfolio and blog provide a clear presentation of this project as well as other work from the class? Why or why not? Can you use some of the design principles we discussed this semester in your explanation?
Overall I think Eddie’s design was a good representation of this project and followed the guidelines. His blog was organized and gave insight on his thought process while creating this design.
